Top 10 Tips for Getting Your
Weight-Loss Program in High Gear
Don't let weight-loss woes give you the
blues.
Tone up by getting in tune with an effective exercise regimen and you'll be on
your way to a healthier, happy living -- not to mention a fabulous figure!
Dr. Diet
is well aware that the first step is usually the hardest when it comes to
getting a good weight-loss, fitness program in gear.
But things don't have to be too tough for you. I have compiled these Top 10
timely tips for shaping up successfully. These 10 helpful hints will help get
you on the right track...Nordic or otherwise.
1. Choose an activity that is natural
for you. If you're a swimmer, do a few laps. For skiers, ski machines are ideal.
Regardless of your passion, walking is often the universal exercise of choice.
You don't need to be a skilled athlete or enthusiast to put one foot forward.
2.
Make a commitment to exercise. Resolve to exercise four times a week for the
next four weeks. Every time you get moving, you're fulfilling a commitment you
made to yourself.
3. Make an appointment with yourself
to exercise. Break out the daily planner and block out a time frame for your
workout. There's no room in the regimen for cancellations! By making more than a
mental note, there is a better chance that you will follow through. Mark down a
time and place today.
4.
Make a commitment to do SOMETHING.
Take the smallest step to do some activity, even if it's just walking out the
door for a few moments. A
little bit of something is better than a large part of nothing!
5.
Create a particular time and routine for your exercise. Stick to the program.
Follow your established routine.
6. Keep your exercise clothes handy. If it helps, keep your workout wardrobe
within reach. When you awake in the morning, slip into the comfortable clothes
and get off and running. Make it as convenient as possible.
7. Eliminate interruptions! Turn on
the answering machine. Turn off the cell phone and pager. Don't answer the front
door. There's not a minute to spare when it comes time for you to exercise.
8.
Make exercise enjoyable. It's a lifestyle turn-around, not torture. Amuse
yourself. If you're walking, listen to your favorite music or book on tape. If
you have a treadmill in front of the television, tune into your favorite
programs. Or simply free your mind and enjoy your leisure time.
Do not use your mind to time your
exercise, use your time to exercise your mind!
9. Roam...Take even the smallest
opportunities to get moving. Seize the moment to climb stairs instead of
hitching a ride on the elevator. Park further away from your destination. Walk
and take stretch breaks throughout the day.
10.
Notice how good you feel. Focus on how energized you feel after a good workout.
Then look at how sluggish you feel on the days you aren't active. No matter how
bad you feel beforehand, exercise will make you feel better.
